WHAT TO AVOID IN FACEMASKS

There are so many types of facemasks available in the market, these are look beautiful, cost saving and again claims high protection. Most of the time people buy facemasks on the basis of price, design, thickness, color, fabric and branded company name.

Are you aware, what should you avoid when buying a facemask? Once you know what to avoid in facemasks, you can figure out yourself whether the one you wearing or buying that is suitable or not.

We buy facemasks to protect ourselves from viruses, What will happen if your facemasks doesn’t provide enough breathability, you can’t breathe with it, if you can’t breathe, you’re killing yourself before viruses kill you. So, please do not judge the facemasks on the basis of thickness. Even though the facemasks claims it has 100% filtration you should rather be tested or check certificates before buy or  avoid the facemask.

Thin facemasks looks very comfortable, made with soft cotton fabrics, but they are not able to effectively filter droplets and aerosols. Moreover, the light comes though, that means you’re allowing the viruses to come through.  To do a homemade testing, light up a candle or switch on your phone light, hold the masks to the source light, get the proof instantly.  And one more disadvantage of thin facemasks, they may not  last.

Facemasks which comes with filter pockets does not necessarily offer good protection, especially when you add a filter into the filter pocket. Confirmation of safety of facemask can only be achieved through lab testing of facemask fabric particle filtration efficiency. People say mine is 3 ply-4 ply-5 ply,  it doesn’t matter how many ply is, that particular fabric must be tested. It will be minimum 95% filtration, best you have it tested or buy from them who have got tested particle filtration how many percent, good quality means 95%, that’s where you get N95, like KN99 is 99% , so that higher you should go. If add too many layers of filters into filter pocket, may render the facemask not breathable, so filter pockets are pointless.

Facemasks made of spongy fabric, not so good. When you stretch up, you can easily stretch up but if the facemask doesn’t fit your face, just throw to the dump.

We should avoid facemasks made of sponge fabric as they can tear easily and may not last.

Some facemasks looks very beautiful with unique design, and made on particular sign face size which are not easy to use. Even though they look thick, lights still can go through and come through.

If facemask elastic ear loop is made of the same fabric as facemask, it is often the case where the elastic ear loop is not sufficiently stretchable, and hence, may not fit the face. So, never buy the facemasks where the elastic ear loop looks like the same fabric as the facemasks.  This kind of facemasks has limited stretch ability.

We need to watch out when we buying elastic earloop facemasks with adjuster, some of them doesn’t have stopper, or go missing, and it’s difficult to find the same one. This is to prevent the earloops adjuster (earloop stopper) from getting dislocated from the earloop, and becomes missing, which then causes the facemask to be not quite usable

A school  bag adjuster used to control the cord, you can’t fit this into facemasks earloop and it doesn’t work, so this is a school bag cord not a facemask adjuster.

Good quality elastic earloop vs Poor quality elastic earloop

A poor quality earloop has some sign to identify, one of the sign is, after a while it will be too soft to use and maybe can use fo 30 days.

Poor quality elastic earloop

If you see a hairy elastic earloop, be aware that it’s not a good quality earloop, so if you wash it few times it will come out, it won’t last.
